Our History

Here at HillCrest Hops, we’re excited to be bringing Wyoming-grown hops to you.

My wife Susan and I purchased the farm in 2012.  Previously, it was used as a horse property. We began our dreams of building a house, a hops yard and a small U-pick fruit field.

We spent the majority of 2021 preparing the first 10 acres to be planted with five varieties of hops. We have over 7,000 plants in the ground this year; two varieties of proprietary hops – Michigan Copper & Mackinac, and three common varieties – Cascade, Chinook, and Centennial. Our plans over the next two years are to have 25,000 plants in the ground.

I am in the process of doing a brewery tour throughout the state, as a way of introducing myself and our hops and affiliation with Hang ‘Em High Hops out of Michigan. If I haven’t had a chance to stop in and meet you yet, I will soon.

I’m looking forward to working with the great brewers here in Wyoming, and seeing how HillCrest Hops can help you continue to make great beer. – Bill Pennington
